{"id":58063,"title":"Shoreline Detectives","description":"\ud83e\udeb6 A Little Explorers Journal entry with Bran the Robin&nbsp;Hello again, explorer!&nbsp;Bran here. &nbsp;Do you remember what we spotted through the trees at Royden Park?&nbsp;Thurstaston was ahead. &nbsp;And somewhere beyond the hill was the sea","content":"<p><strong><span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83e\udeb6<\/span> A Little Explorers Journal entry with Bran the Robin<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Hello again, explorer!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Bran here.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Do you remember what we spotted through the trees at Royden Park?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Thurstaston was ahead.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>And somewhere beyond the hill was the sea.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Well, I said we should find out what was there.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>So come on.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>We're going to the shore!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.podos.io\/58ruxl0vusgkyclxougdu9atysix7g0ce1u8yi6mox2naghp.jpg.jpg?w=1140&amp;v=2\" alt=\"58ruxl0vusgkyclxougdu9atysix7g0ce1u8yi6mox2naghp.jpg.jpg?w=1140&amp;v=2\" \/><\/p><p><strong>Following the Salt Wind<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The woods don't disappear all at once.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>At first we're still beneath the trees, with roots under our feet and autumn leaves scattered along the path.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>But keep going.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Can you feel the wind changing?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The trees begin to thin, the sky grows bigger, and every now and then there's something else in the air.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Salt.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>That means we're getting closer.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>I could fly ahead and check.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>But that would be cheating.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>We'll discover it together.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>And then, suddenly, the trees give way.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>There it is.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The Dee stretches out in front of us, with the Welsh hills far beyond the water.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>And below us is the shore.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>We made it!<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Down to the Shore<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Now we have a new problem.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Where do we look first?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The tide has been busy.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>There are pieces of driftwood along the shore, shells among the sand and pebbles, and all sorts of lines and patterns left behind by the water.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Yesterday, some of these things might have been somewhere completely different.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Today, the tide has left them here for us to discover.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Which makes us...<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Shoreline Detectives!<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Every detective needs sharp eyes.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Mine are particularly sharp.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Robin eyes.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Let's see what we can find.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Perhaps there's a shell with an unusual pattern.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Maybe there's a feather caught between the stones.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Or a piece of driftwood that looks like something else entirely.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>A dragon?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>A crooked walking stick?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The world's smallest pirate ship?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>All right, perhaps not a pirate ship.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>But don't decide too quickly.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sometimes the best discoveries are the things everyone else has walked straight past.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>A Mystery in the Sand<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Wait.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>What's that?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>There's a mark in the wet sand.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>It could have been made by a bird.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Or perhaps something was dragged along by the tide.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Come closer and have a look.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>What do you think made it?<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>I had an excellent theory.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Then a wave came in and washed half of it away.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Detective work is difficult at the seaside.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>And that's another thing about the shore: it never stays quite the same.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The tide comes in.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The tide goes out.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>New things arrive, old marks disappear, and the next explorer might find something completely different from us.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>So we'd better keep looking while we can.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong><span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83e\udeb6<\/span> Explorer Field Notes<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83d\udc1a<\/span> Discover:<\/strong> Can you find a shell, pebble or piece of driftwood with an interesting shape or pattern?<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83d\udd0e<\/span> Investigate:<\/strong> Look for a mark or track in the sand. What do you think made it?<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83d\udc42<\/span> Listen:<\/strong> Can you hear the waves, the wind and a bird? Which sound is loudest?<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI Emoji', sans-serif;\">\ud83d\udcad<\/span> Imagine:<\/strong> Find a piece of driftwood or an unusual stone.
