From the promenade the water can appear distant, almost like another shoreline far beyond the first.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>But the ground beneath these sands holds older stories.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img src=\"https:\/\/images.podos.io\/ief92u59kjjjnx1wyn1pgyzaa2nbdwvvzfz3nvtok1ai2qsg.jpg.jpg?w=1140&amp;project=beastly-boroughs-416041&amp;v=2\" alt=\"ief92u59kjjjnx1wyn1pgyzaa2nbdwvvzfz3nvtok1ai2qsg.jpg.jpg?w=1140&amp;project=beastly-boroughs-416041&amp;v=2\" \/><\/p><p>Every so often, after storms or very low tides, dark shapes begin to appear along the flats \u2014 the remains of trees that once grew here long before the sea slowly covered the land.
