The roots are waking again. Not loudly. Not all at once. But steadily.

Spring does not arrive in colour first. It arrives in warmth beneath the soil.

I walk the familiar paths of the peninsula, and I see the change before others do. Buds swell at the ends of branches. Moss brightens. The light lingers longer against bark and stone. Even the tide seems to breathe differently, as if it too has turned its face toward the sun.

The TreeFolk feel it most deeply.

By day they stand as they always have — patient guardians of field and shore. Yet their branches carry a quiet tension now, a remembering of movement. Sap rises through their hidden veins like a slow awakening. They do not hurry. They have known many springs.

There is an oak in Royden Park whose bark I touched this morning. It felt warmer than it did a fortnight ago. Not warm as fire — warm as promise.

I stood there a long while.

The land does not bloom all at once. It gathers itself first. Beneath hedgerows, beneath leaf litter, beneath roots older than memory, something ancient leans toward the light.

This is the season of turning.

Not the turning of leaves — that comes later — but the turning of intention. The peninsula shifts quietly from rest to reaching. The hours stretch. Shadows shorten. Even the wind softens its edge.

And at dusk, when the stars wake earlier than the birds, I sense the TreeFolk holding a different kind of stillness. Their patience has changed. It is the patience of those who know growth is certain.

Spring has begun.

I will follow it from woodland floor to open hill, from budding branch to brightened shore. And I will write what I witness — so that those who walk beneath these trees may feel the turning too.

The first blossoms are not far from opening.

Let us watch.

When the wind turns from the sea and the light begins to change, I find myself walking again. The air carries salt and leaf together.
